Flyers Rules and Regulations These rules have been instituted to ensure the safety of flyers and spectators, and apply to all persons attending LDRS 26. Parents are responsible for making sure that their children follow these rules. Safety Rules The following rules represent a summary - the full printable rules and regs are located here. Please read the Desert Survival Guide and keep it Wholey. Keep behind the flightline barrier at all times, until you are permitted to by range officials. No unnecessary persons on the range to load or recover rockets. Area between the flight line flags and the first row of "easy ups" is the safety zone. This is a standing area only: No chairs, No sitting, No bicycles or other vehicles in this area. All rockets to be flown MUST be inspected and approved by a Range Safety Officer (RSO). If you feel the RSO has rejected your rocket unfairly, discuss the matter with an LDRS board member in attendance. Igniters on "G" class motors and above, or any cluster of composite motors, are to be installed only at the launch pad to which you have been assigned. Any safety devices (Shunts, etc) must also be installed until that time. To recover a rocket that has landed near the launch pads, or to load a rocket onto the pad you have been assigned, wait until the LCO announces "The range is open" or a pad manager directs you to. When An LCO announces "HEADS UP" stand up immediately, and scan the sky for a descending rocket or rocket parts. Also on your feet if the LCO announces "This is a HEADS UP FLIGHT" stay on your feet and be alert until the rocket has successfully deployed its recovery system. If you are away from the pad area and cannot hear the public address speakers, please tune your FM radio to 90.1 MHz to monitor LCO announcements. Do not attempt to catch ANY rocket as it lands. Even a small rocket can cause injuries! Do not pick up or move a rocket that has landed unless you have the owners permission to do so. Exception #1: If you find a rocket (or parts) a long distance from the launch area and no one appears to be looking for it, and it appears to be undamaged. Carefully bring it back to the LCO table (lost and found). If the rocket is damaged note or mark its location, and notify the LCO of its location when you return to the launch area. Exception #2: If a rocket is being dragged across the lakebed by wind. Carefully place the rocket or nosecone on top of the chute so the wind won't drag it any further. Exception #3: If you find a reloadable motor case that has been ejected from a rocket. Use caution, Cases may be VERY hot after firing. Radio Control (RC) systems used on the range connected to any pyrotechnic devices (ignitors or backup charges) must be commercially available systems that are specifically designed for remote ignition of pyrotechnic devices (such as, but not limited to, the Missile Works WRC or Digifire systems). No car/aircraft/boat systems can be used for ignition or backup charges. This is not an RC club so we're not going to try and coordinate RC aircraft or RC car frequencies for non-rocketry uses. The regular "no aircraft or cars on the range while it's open" restrictions still apply. Note that this restriction does not apply to RC boost gliders, only their ignition and ejection charges. Other General Rules Park your Vehicles only in designated areas behind the flightline. RVs and motorhomes must park in the areas designated for them. Overnight camping and campfires in above ground containers. Firepits are not permitted. Please use only provided toilet facilites (porta-potties) Do not dispose of any trash or non human waste into the porta-potties! Pee pee, doo doo, and tee pee ONLY! Please clean up after your pets. Really. Please leave the lakebed as we found it! Pick up all your trash and use the dumpsters provided or take it off the lakebed with you when you leave! The speed limit within the parking area is 3 MPH. This includes all vehicle. motorcycles, dunebuggies, quads, bicycles, rollerskates, etc. Remember there are lots of children in this area, and it also makes annoying dust! Absolutely under NO circumstances are there any fireworks allowed! PERIOD. Mark Hayes is in charge of security and off range safety. If you see any issues please contact him or any other board member as soon as possible. He's a Big Guy and he will Kick Some Ass if it is warranted! Take your keys wallet etc with you at all times, and make sure your valuables are in a safe place, or locked up, I know we shouldn't have to worry about this but things do happen beyond our control. Remember we are here to have fun. Please be safe at all times, and its also going to be very hot. Use sunscreen, and protection from the sun (hats, sunglasses etc) Take water with you to recover your rockets, and drink plenty of water! Plan on a gallon a day per person. No hazardous materials (propellant, chemicals, etc.) are allowed on any hotel property - this includes the parking lot! Thank you for your support and cooperation! |
